We all dream of a scenario where we could walk into a business with our pockets empty and walk out with enough money to last generations. That is to say we all want a business that can be started at no cost. What we would like even more is a chance to work from home.

And that is how we think about starting a free online business. To many of us a free online business combines the best of both worlds. We feel we can start a business for free and we can work from the comfort of home.

But most of the times, you must realize, a free online business is not actually free. It usually does involve a little investment from your side. But usually this investment is very small- sometimes as little as a few dollars. It all depends on the kind of business you have in mind. Naturally, you will have to have some idea about the type of business you want to start online.

If you are a designer or a writer and want get work, you can do so by looking for jobs on places like craigslist.com. By this, you are reducing your investment to a minimum. You just have to pay for the electricity and Internet. If you already have a computer and Internet connection, then you will be setting up a business that is as close to a free online business as it gets.

Another method would be to start a blog. You could start a blog for free and then make money off the advertisements. But your blog will have to be unique and appeal to a large group of people. Technology related blogs or business related blogs are the ones that usually click.

However all these are really small businesses. In fact they are more like writing or designing assignments. If you really have to start your own online business, you will have to invest in a website. The entire business can be set up for as little as 10USD. If you can design and write for the website on your own, you can get the work done for a really low rate. Of course, as mentioned before it is not free online business per say.

Once you set up your online business, the rest is practically free. You just have to advertise in many of the free places on the Internet. You will have to network a lot and do some public relations for business. Join a few forums that are related to your business and make comments that will attract the attention of the readers and drive them to your website. Once the word spreads, your business can flourish and really generate money.

With an online business, you can get customers from anywhere in the world, work flexible hours, work from anywhere and go on vacations according to your wish. You also get to spend a lot of time with people who really matter- your family and friends.
